Classification: Electric hammers can be categorized into horizontal and vertical types based on their motor design. Vertical models employ a cam‑and‑connecting‑rod mechanism, offering high energy‑transfer efficiency and a low failure rate. Horizontal models use a rocker‑bearing‑and‑connecting‑rod arrangement; constrained by the strength of the rocker bearing, they cannot deliver very high impact force, but they allow for a more compact and lightweight design.
An electric hammer builds upon the electric drill by adding a piston mechanism that reciprocates to compress air within a cylinder, causing the air pressure inside to fluctuate cyclically. This varying air pressure drives the hammer within the cylinder to strike the drill bit’s tip repeatedly, resulting in the drill bit not only rotating but also executing rapid reciprocating motion along the drill’s shank—producing frequent impacts.
A rotary hammer is a type of electric drill, primarily used for drilling holes in concrete, floor slabs, brick walls, and stone materials. 。
